Editing Services FAQ

What is your turnaround time for editing?

This depends on the service you choose and my current schedule, but generally turnaround times are between 2-4 weeks.

Do you offer quotes and samples?

Yes! I always offer free quotes and samples. The samples are based proportionately on the size of your manuscript.

What genres do you edit?

Typically, I edit books in the fantasy, sci-fi, and romance genres. I also enjoy editing children’s books. I don’t usually work outside of these genres, but please feel free to contact me if you think we’re a good fit. Sometimes, I make exceptions.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes. I require a 25% non-refundable deposit upon booking. For first chapter critiques and positivity passes, a 50% deposit is required. This deposit guarantees your spot in my schedule. If you need to reschedule, please inform me 15 days in advance. The deposit will transfer to the new date.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! The deposit I require (25%) holds your spot in my schedule. The remainder is due upon completion. If you need a longer payment schedule, I can work on your book in smaller chunks to make the cost easier to budget. I want you to be satisfied without breaking the bank.

Do you require a contract?

Yes, I always require editorial contracts. These contracts are to protect you and everything concerning your project. They also help to prevent any miscommunication. The contracts outline everything from payments to editing expectations to delivery schedule.

Do you offer video chat or phone calls?

I don’t typically offer video chat or phone calls due to being a single-person operation. However, my inbox is always open for questions, concerns, and follow-ups. I offer extensive help before, during, and after the editing process. I strive to reply to emails within 24 hours.

Do you offer rush editing?

Yes, depending on my schedule. Depending on the length of your manuscript and the timeframe you need the edit to be completed, I typically charge an additional 10-20% to your bill.

About the Editor FAQ

How do you balance being a writer and an editor?

Not gonna lie, it can be hard sometimes! As much as writing refills the creative well for me, my clients come first. I greatly enjoy helping them on their writing journeys. Seeing them succeed inspires me to continue my own journey. So, I try my best to carve out at least a little writing time 2-3 days a week.

What’s the best thing about your career?

It’s so hard to pick! I get to read and write books for a living. Honestly, this is the dream. I get to help other writers achieve their publishing dreams while also constantly filling my own creative well. Probably the best thing is that I get to help bring all these wonderful stories to life.

What is your educational background?

My education is wide and varied because I am a multi-passionate person. I have a certification in digital and film photography and an A.S. degree in business and accounting. I took many creative writing and editing courses throughout college, and I’ve also completed multiple editing courses through the CPD certified company Knowadays and the Editorial Freelancers Association.

Why book editing if your traditional education is in business and accounting?

I’ve had a passion for books and publishing for most of my life. But for various reasons, my life took me on a different educational path than I originally expected when I first decided I wanted to go into publishing. I continue to take courses in writing and editing while also building the foundation of my career on my formal educational background.
